German-language RTL Radio has replaced its oldies format with a music mix of current hits and oldies from the 80’s until the 00’s.
RTL Radio is broadcast on FM in Luxembourg and in the German regions of Trier, Eifel and Saarland. It is also available in Germany on cable and throughout Europe on satellite.
Since 1992, RTL’s national German station has had a gold format, with the positioning ”Die besten Hits aller Zeiten” (”Greatest Hits of All Time”). The station is now marketed as ”RTL Radio – Deutschlands Hit-Radio” (”RTL Radio – Germany’s Hit Radio”). The target age group is 25-55.
Production has been moved to RTL Radio Center Berlin. The morning show Arno und die Morgencrew, which was named best morning show at the Deutchen Radiopreis, is simulcast with Berlin station 104.6, as is afternoon show Koschwitz am Nachmittag. Some production of local content, such as weather and traffic, remains in Luxembourg.
The German programming from RTL, then known as Radio Luxembourg, started in 1956 on mediumwave and in 1957 on FM. At its peak, the station reached more than 21 million listeners in Germany.
